I’ve been planning Rocktoberfest 2 since, well Oct 23rd last year (morning after Rocktoberfest 1). I finally have my costume decided upon and have had many a conversation with others who’ve been planning theirs. It is sure to be a fantastic time. About a month ago, I finally set the date as Saturday, Oct 21. I’ve not officially started inviting people, but have been loosely spreading the word.
Today, by the aid of a friend/reader, I came to the unforunate realization that I’d scheduled Rocktoberfest for the same night that Okkervil River is playing the HiTone. Really, I’m not concerned about people missing the party for the show… I don’t really know of that many people that are planning on the show, but I’m hugely disappointed that I will miss it.
So, I see 3 possible options. 1) Miss the show and keep my eyes focused on the party and take solace in the fact that now Jeremy Enigk is on the bill to play the Cursive show in November. 2) I could move the party to Friday… but Fridays are really shitty party nights. 3) I could move it to the 28th, Halloween weekend. But do I really want to compete with everyone else that knows how great an idea Halloween parties are?

I hear you. Hayden and I wanted to have another pumpkin-carving party or a Halloween party, but we don’t know anyone here. We can’t compete with others with actual friends for a party the weekend of Halloween and will be home to visit the weekend before. As for you, you could always come to Chicago for Okkervil River on 10/7 and then have your party on 10/21. Then you get the best of all worlds. Good luck with your decision.
To try and make the decision yesterday, I listened to Black Sheep Boy and at some point stopped recognizing songs and got bored. I realized I don’t think I’ve ever listened to the album all the way through. So, why fret? The 21st it is…. and Apryl/everyone you’re more than welcome to carve pumpkins at my house pre-Rocktoberfest. Cause you will be there.
So I’ve not heard anything else about Rocktoberfest. I haven’t received a hand-delivered invitation, an email invite, or even a MySpace invite. Is it still on for October 21?
